Swimmers Shine at the 2024 EFDSC Home Gala

Epping Forest District Swim Club (EFDSC) kicked off the season with their Early County Qualifier annual Home Gala on Sunday, 22nd September 2024. Loughton Leisure Centre was buzzing with enthusiastic swimmers arriving from 7.45am. It was a really fantastic event where we welcomed two impressive visiting Clubs, Harlow Penguins SC and Thurrock SC.

With 200 swimmers participating, the meet was full of competitive spirit. EFDSC was delighted to have 87 home swimmers competing in the event, 13 of whom were competing in their first ever swim gala. Watching our new swimmers commence their gala journey in the home pool is always very special and encouraging for the Club.

Gavin Povall, Head Coach at EFDSC commented, “It’s great to see all the hard work from swimmers, coaches and parents coming together. It’s really so promising to see all the new youngsters coming through and building the depth to the Club. The Club really does seem to have a great future ahead of it, going from strength to strength. A special credit to all our Learn to Swim Teachers and our Academy and Squad Coaches for their amazing work.”

The EFDSC Chairman, Mr. Tim Hayward said, “I’d like to second everything Gavin has said. I’d also like to add it was great to see so many people I hadn’t met before helping make the Gala possible. It makes me proud and confident that the Club is in good hands and will continue to thrive.”

The Club would like to thank Epping Forest District Council for their continued support. In addition, huge gratitude goes out to the Management and Staff of Loughton Leisure Centre for all their help and attention in preparing for the Gala and for ensuring the day ran smoothly from dawn to dusk.
