Last weekend saw the first Block of the Essex Champs 2020 where the best swimmers from clubs across Essex compete against each other. Saturday was a long day at the iconic 50m Olympic pool at the London Aquatic Centre where around 900 swimmers gathered to race in the 50 metre events. Sunday saw many of those swimmers back in action at Basildon. Our swimmers looked very smart in their new Essex T-shirts kindly donated by our sponsors The Delta Group.

 

The weekend began and ended with Gold for EFDSC. Hayden Thomas took 1^st place in the 17/Over Boys 50 Breast in an Event Best Time of 30.13 seconds blowing apart the competition! And in the last event of the weekend our awesome 13/14 Boys Freestyle Team of Teniola Atanlusi, Jack Caci, William Collowey and Cem Foo-Turk claimed Gold in a thrilling relay event.

 

Throughout the weekend there was an abundance of medalists, finalists, PBs and regional times achieved. Our swimmers swam incredibly well and were all a credit to the club. Our young 9/10 girls relay team deserve a mention as they coped with the occasion brilliantly. They just missed out on a final placing coming in 11^th in both their relays.

Head Coach Gavin Povall said “This was an amazing start to Counties with every single swimmer giving their absolute everything. All the hard work in the training pool is starting to show.”
